Bacon Wrapped Hotdogs in a Rich Glaze

Servings: 24 (4 pieces per serving)
Yield: 96 pieces

Ingredients

  • 24 hot dogs

  • 1 package precooked bacon (I use the Kirkland brand from Costco) or raw bacon

  • Toothpicks

  • Sauce: Equal parts ketchup and brown sugar
(2 cups ketchup + 2 cups brown sugar is a good starting amount.)

Instructions

If using raw bacon:

  1. Wrap one strip of bacon around each hot dog and secure with four toothpicks, spaced evenly.

  2. Slice the bacon-wrapped hot dog into four even pieces, keeping a toothpick in each piece.

  3. Repeat with remaining hot dogs and bacon.

If using precooked bacon:

  1. Cut each hot dog into four even pieces.

  2. Cut precooked bacon slices into three even pieces.

  3. Wrap one piece of bacon around each hot dog segment and secure with a toothpick.

To cook:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. Arrange the prepared bacon-wrapped hot dog pieces on a parchment-lined baking dish with sides.

  3. In a saucepan, combine equal parts ketchup and brown sugar. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.

  4. Pour the hot sauce evenly over the hot dog pieces.

  5. Bake for 20–30 minutes, or until the sauce is caramelized and the bacon is crisp.

Notes

  • Makes 96 pieces (24 servings; 4 pieces per serving).

  • These keep well in a slow cooker after caramelizing in the oven, perfect for potlucks or parties.
