About All On A Postage Stamp: City Homesteading
Welcome to my little corner of the internet! Here, I share my journey of transforming a tiny city lot into a thriving, joy-filled homestead. I'm all about finding abundance in small spaces and learning to grow, create, cook, and live fully right where you are. I call it “city homesteading,” but really, it’s just a fancy way of saying that I’m doing my best to live simply, creatively, and close to my roots, even in the middle of the city.

My City Homestead
I call it “city homesteading,” but really, it’s just a fancy way of saying that I’m doing my best to live simply, creatively, and close to my roots, even in the middle of the city. From feathered neighbours out back (otherwise known as “the cluckery”) to fresh herbs in pots, veggies tucked into every corner of our yard, large planters holding columnar apple trees on our balcony, fences lined with espalier trained fruit trees, grape vines climbing along the balcony in our backyard and more herbs, berries and fruit tucked between flowers in our small front yard garden bed. I’ve learned that you don’t need acres of land to live abundantly.

A Dream Taking Root
When I first started dreaming about homesteading, I didn’t have rolling acres or a big red barn waiting to be filled. There was no root cellar or spacious pantry to stock with garden harvests or home preserves, what I did have was a small backyard in Kitchener, a patch of grass that barely fit a picnic table and a deep longing to grow something real and share the country life I knew as a child with my own family.
Over time, that modest little space has grown right along with us. What started as a dream has turned into a micro-orchard, a cozy coop of feathered friends, raised beds brimming with herbs and vegetables, and planters heavy with berries. It’s still evolving and surprising me every season, proof that even the smallest spaces can yield the biggest joys.

Small Spaces, Big Joys
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you don’t need a lot of land to start living a homestead life and that a homestead life isn’t just for country dwellers but also for urban city dwellers too. All it takes is a bit of curiosity, a willingness to get your hands dirty, and a heart that loves to nurture and grow what you have. Maybe it’s a few pots of herbs on a balcony, a tomato plant climbing up a fence, or even a couple of backyard hens clucking away in a tiny coop. Every step brings you closer to a simpler, more connected way of living.
